24 Apr A Parade of Fraternity from the South to the North
Celebrating the friendship and the fraternal bond between Jaffna Hindu College and Ananda College Colombo the annual head to head cricket encounter, The Sivagurunathan Challenge trophy was yet again organized for the eight consecutive time on the 14th of September.
Following the cricket encounter the two schools also held the Panikkar Thanabalasingham annual debating competition and several other friendly sporting events between the old boys of the two great schools.
This year, the Anandians returned the gesture to their fellow Jaffna Hindu College counterparts by meeting them on their home grounds in the heart of Jaffna. For the first time since the inception of these friendly contests, A Parade clad in maroon and gold called “Uthurata Negam” embarked on a journey from the Ananda college premises on the 13th of September at 6:30 am.
This parade was graced by the Principal of Ananda College Mr. S.M. Keerthirathne, distinguished old Anandians including the legendary cricketer Mr. Arjuna Ranathunga, past pupils of Jaffna Hindu College, and the teachers and students of Ananda college and it showed to the entire island the true friendship that is shared between the two great educational institutions although hundreds of miles apart.
